Give the gift of language.
Dec 2nd, 2008 by Frank

Saludos! These are my friends JP and Liliana of SpanishPod. Like the folks over at ChinesePod, where I’ve spent the last three years studying Mandarin (with great success, I might add), the folks at SpanishPod do an amazing job of delivering daily content that actually makes language learning fun. That’s no small feat!
With the holidays upon us, take a second to think about the gifts you give. Sure, you can get someone a great sweater or a nifty electronic gadget, but I promise you that no gift will give more bang for its buck than a subscription to any of the great LanguagePods put out by Praxis Language. Every day you’ll get new lessons, learn new vocabulary, make new friends, and — in no time at all — enjoy a proficiency in your chosen language that you never would have imagined possible.
The daily audio lessons run about 10-15 minutes and they’re full of real-life conversations and phrases that you’ll use every day. The Premium subscription (which makes a great gift) gives you access to supplemental materials that will put your learning on the fast track, all while keeping it fun. (Have I mentioned how that’s no small feat?)
So pick your poison and sign up! Or head over to any of the Praxis Language sites and try out a trial subscription for free. You can’t beat free! They’ve got you covered in Chinese, French, Italian, and of course, Spanish.
Through the gift of language, I’ve made friends literally around the world. Show me a sweater that can do that. And while this is a gift I gave myself, it’s one of the best I ever received.
Give JP and Liliana a try. And tell them I sent you! Feliz Navidad!
(In the interest of full disclosure, it should be known that I used to work for ChinesePod but I’m no longer on the payroll. My feelings here are my own.)
Frank, thanks so much for the ringing endorsement! Are you sure the marketing department didn’t put you up to this
If our lessons are fun, it’s because we have a lot of fun doing them. Thanks for listening!
They didn’t give me so much as a mooncake! I swear!
The fun you have in producing these things is evident to anyone who’s heard one. I feel really lucky I got to be in the studio for one of your sessions the last time I was in town.
Thanks for putting ‘em out there!
I’m so sending this to my mother. she’s been hounding me for gift ideas… and I want to speak so many different languages…
I honestly would have thought that learning Chinese outside of a rigid classroom environment would have been impossible. I was SO wrong. Now I can’t imagine anyone willingly sitting in a class where your progress is rigidly fixed to the slowest learner.
The ChinesePod tagline is “Chinese on your terms.” And it is. It really is. In fact, ALL the Praxis language plans follow this simple edict.
What’s REALLY cool is their Guided Practice Plan, where a counselor calls you from Shanghai to review the day’s lesson and engage in a little light conversation. I did that for a few months with a wonderful counselor named Aggie and I watched my progress absolutely skyrocket.
